But they are also themes that can trap the mind, leading it onto circular tracks from which escape is difficult and on which ever more detailed reiteration of the problem is all that is possible, and there is some of that quality in the middle passages of this novel, which a hostile critic might describe as navel-gazing. I liked it, enjoyed it, was entertained, and didn't have to do any mental heavy lifting but did, however, get engaged in the story and invested in the characters. The battles to find 'loop holes' that would agree with his hope to support for his 'wants' is sincerely portrayed so that anyone on the same search can find consolation in their own journey. This book is a wonderful keepsake for anyone who would benefit from a reminder that miracles occur every day because angels are everywhere. Until there's only one rock left unturned.
